Report: Vikings, 49ers Trade Collapses After Player Refuses

Minnesota Vikings receiver Jauan Jennings turned down a trade back to the San Francisco 49ers, according to FOX’s Jay Glazer, who reported San Francisco had trade terms worked out with Minnesota that depended on Jennings getting on a FaceTime call with Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch.

Glazer said Jennings was supposed to tell them he wanted to come back, but instead said, “Actually, no, I want to stay here in Minnesota.”

The Deal That Wasn’t

San Francisco, which has been hit hard by injuries at receiver, turned to the trade market after it had already acquired DeForest Buckner from the Colts, according to FOX Sports.

Glazer said Jennings likes what’s going on in Minnesota, and no compensation has been reported for the terms that were worked out.

Jennings is 29 and played for the 49ers from 2021 to 2025, when San Francisco let him leave in free agency, and he signed a one-year, $8 million deal with Minnesota in May that can reach $13 million with incentives.

He had 55 catches for 643 yards and nine touchdowns with San Francisco last season, and has just six catches on 10 targets for 54 yards through six games with the Vikings.

He’s the primary third option behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and Minnesota was the NFL’s only unbeaten team before Sunday.

What It Means For Both Teams

Minnesota had been open to listening on him, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting teams had checked in and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen putting his chance of being traded at 50 percent.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport named the 49ers as a logical partner on October 13, and Fowler wrote the 49ers were an obvious fit.

The 49ers are 6-1 and will likely stay active on the receiver market, with the trade deadline set for November 10.
