NFL Rumors: Baker Mayfield Finished in Cleveland

If you ask Baker Mayfield, he'll tell you the writing is on the wall. The Cleveland Browns veteran quarterback recently sent a letter out thanking Browns fans as the team scheduled a meeting with Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. The meeting has obviously hit Mayfield pretty hared as he's saying his goodbyes before being asked to leave.

We shared earlier this week about Watson's meeting as the Browns are certainly a surprise team in the sweepstakes. While the mobile quarterback won't be charged in criminal court, Watson still has over 20 sexual complaints filed by multiple women. He didn't play football last season, however if you ask any executive in the league they'll point to his resume before the drama off the field.

As for Mayfield, earlier this offseason Browns general manager Andrew Berry gave him a vote of confidence that he's still the guy in Cleveland and named him starter for 2022. Not bad for a QB with a 29-30 career record. Needless to say there's some left to be desired based on the expectations set on the former first-overall pick.

In 2021, the Browns finished 6-8 and Mayfield recorded 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. This coming after a season in 2020 where he threw 26/8 and made the playoffs. While the Browns consider a replacement in Watson, they'll have competition as he's also held meetings with the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Atlanta Falcons.
