NFL Rumors: Browns Could Release Quarterback

If the Baker Mayfield sweepstakes do not begin to pick up, the Cleveland Browns may elect to release the 26-year-old quarterback.
Ideally, the Browns would obviously love to trade Mayfield, but if teams are unwilling to make a push for him, it seems that they just want a clean break from the 2018 first-overall pick. His time in Cleveland is coming to an end one way or another, as the team of course acquired Deshaun Watson earlier this month.

Teams are rapidly finding their new starting quarterbacks, and Mayfield has yet to become one of those options. As we get deeper into the offseason, the interest could begin to go up, but at this juncture, things have gone quiet.

In 14 starts with the Browns last season, Mayfield threw 17 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and 3.010 yards. It was a down year for him, as he just had 17 TDs and only eight interceptions the year before. Perhaps when looking at those numbers, there could be a team willing to bring him in via trade. Time will tell on that front.
