NFL Rumors: Chiefs Heavily Pursuing Star Cornerback

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the Kansas City Chiefs and free-agent safety Stephon Gilmore are currently engaging in contract talks.

Gilmore has received a lot of attention from the Las Vegas Raiders, but now it's clear that the veteran is getting interest from other teams, too. With Kansas City looking to get back to the Super Bowl in 2022, it makes sense that he is a player who they are pursuing heavily.

Gilmore had himself a strong season with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. In eight games, he recorded two interceptions and had a combined 16 tackles. With this, he also was named to the Pro Bowl, so it's fair to say that he left an impact yet again.

Yet, if Gilmore signed with the Chiefs, it would present him the opportunity to play for a contender again. The 31-year-old of course won a Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots, so he naturally wants to get himself another one. With that, Kansas City would certainly be wise to sign him, as he is a five-time Pro Bowler, two-time First-team All-Pro, and one-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Alas, let's see if the 31-year-old ends up in KC from here.
