Former Colts Kicker Tries Out With Jacksonville

The Indianapolis Colts finally got on the board in 2022 with a shock upset of the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, but if it wasn't for the struggles in Week 1 of the offence and their kicker, there's a good chance that this team could be 2-1, and firmly in second place in the AFC South. That led to the Colts releasing their kicker of three seasons in Rodrigo Blankenship before Week 2, and today, he had his first tryout for his next team, with the one who beat the Colts in Week 2, the division rival Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former New York Jets kicker Sam Ficken was also at the tryout, but at this point, it's unclear why either man has tried out, as current Jacksonville Kicker Riley Patterson has gone 7-8 on field goals, and has kicked at a perfect 100% rate on XP in 2022.

It makes sense if the Jaguars want to use either on their practice squad in case Patterson goes down, but through three weeks, he's been one of the only kickers in the NFL without a big time miss, so it's a surprising move on Jacksonville's part. There's also a chance that it was just a routine tryout and neither man will be signed, but considering how good they've been en route to a 2-1 start through three weeks, it's certainly a head-scratcher.
