New Orleans Saints Announce Pair of Roster Moves

The New Orleans Saints announced two moves Tuesday afternoon in the lead-up to the team's season opener. Linebacker Chase Hansen has been promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, and quarterback Jake Lutton has been signed to the practice squad in a corresponding move.
Hansen was originally an undrafted free agent out of Utah signed by the Saints following the 2019 NFL Draft. He has stayed loyal to the team despite several waives, releases, and re-signings across his three seasons in the league. He has appeared in limited action over the course of his career, tallying two total tackles in five regular season games and two postseason appearances for the Saints. The bulk of his playing time has come on special teams, where he contributed a career-high 72 snaps last year. He will likely play a similar role in the coming season.

Luton was initially drafted 189th overall out of Oregon State by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He started three games for the Jaguars as a rookie but did not distinguish himself, tossing six interceptions and taking seven sacks on his 110 pass attempts. He has since bounced around the league, notching stints on practice squads for the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins last year. He's poised to serve as quarterback depth only to be called upon should something happen to starter Jameis Winston or backup Andy Dalton.

The Saints host the Atlanta Falcons for their season opener this Sunday.
