Key Saints Remain Out at Wednesday Practice

The New Orleans Saints are trying to pull themselves out of a rough start to the 2022 regular season, but they may need to find a way to do it without some of their best players. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore and wide receivers Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry all remained absent at Wednesday's practice after missing Week 7's Thursday Night Football 42-34 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Lattimore exited in the team's Week 5 39-32 win over the Seattle Seahawks with an abdomen injury. Thomas has missed four straight games with an ankle injury. Landry has been unavailable for three weeks due to his own lingering ankle injury.

Of the three, Lattimore's absence has been the most devastating. The four-time Pro Bowler had allowed a solid 71.2 passer rating on throws in his direction across his five appearances, but his exit against the Seahawks has coincided with a disastrous three-week run for the Saints in which they've allowed 34.7 points per game. The Saints offense has remained surprisingly explosive without Landry and Thomas, ranking third in the league in yards gained and seventh in points scored.

The Saints face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8 in a matchup between two-win teams trying to stay alive in their respective conferences. With the Saints set to start Andy Dalton, they'll need to muster every bit of talent on their roster if they want to keep from picking up their sixth loss of the season.
