Commanders Edge Rusher to Miss Monday Night Football

The Washington Commanders will have to wait a little bit longer to see their premier pass rusher back in action. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the team will not activate edge rusher Chase Young from injured reserve for Monday Night Football's showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Young tore his ACL in Week 9 of the 2021 season and has yet to return to game action. Now a full calendar year removed from the injury, Young appears on the precipice of a full recovery, but the Commanders will continue to exercise caution with their young star. He'll have a chance to return for Week 11's matchup against the Houston Texans.

Young burst onto the scene as the Commanders' second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, earning Pro Bowl and Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in his first season. An overwhelming pass rusher out of Ohio State, Young notched 30.5 sacks and 40.5 tackles for loss in three seasons with the Buckeyes before going pro.

Young's spectacular physical tools and limitless potential are a big reason why the Commanders are so willing to take the long view; Young has two years remaining on his contract after this season, and he has every chance to grow into one of the league's elite defenders so long as his recovery goes well.
