Injury Update On 49ers QB Trey Lance

His highly anticipated season was cut short in Week 2.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance was seen walking without crutches or a medical boot as he recovers from surgery to his right fibula.
Lance was placed on injured reserve due to a serious ankle injury back in Week 2, ending his highly anticipated sophomore season.

The third overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft was seen on the sidelines of Sunday's 22-16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers without a boot or crutches for the first time since his surgery. The good news is Lance appears to be progressing nicely, which looks good for his availability for the start of the 2023 season.

The 49ers were forced to go back to Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting QB following Lance's injury and the team is currently 5-4 under him. Once Lance is healthy, he will almost assuredly be given the starting role in San Francisco. It also helps that Garoppolo is an unrestricted free agent in 2023.
