Patriots Release Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots' passing attack has struggled for the majority of the 2022 regular season, and evidently they're looking to shake things up. The team announced Tuesday afternoon that it had released wide receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey from the practice squad. Humphrey has appeared in four games for the Patriots this year, nabbing two of his four targets for 20 yards. He is probably best known for his 249 receiving yards and two touchdowns on only 18 targets with the New Orleans Saints during the 2021 season.

Humphrey never got much of a chance with the Patriots this season despite their pass game's problems. Starting quarterback Mac Jones has regressed dramatically in his second year, throwing 7 interceptions in six starts while seeing his net yards per pass attempt fall to 5.76, down from 6.48 last year.

A big-bodied, powerful wide receiver, the deceptively named Humphrey should catch on with another team looking for a pass catcher who can make plays in traffic to fill out their depth. A return to the Saints could benefit both parties.
