Raiders Tight End Expected to Miss Week 9

The Las Vegas Raiders will be without one of their stars when they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller is expected to be sidelined for today's matchup.

Waller logged limited practices for the Raiders all week. He hasn't seen game action since the team's 30-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. He missed much of training camp and the preseason with a balky hamstring, and it flared up again early in the game.

As a result of the nagging injury, Waller hasn't been his typical self in the 2022 regular season. After averaging 69.9 receiving yards per game and 8.5 yards per target from 2019 to 2021, he's down to 35.0 yards per game and 7.3 yards per target this year. Still, his absence will likely make today harder for wide receivers Davante Adams, Hunter Renfrow, and Mack Hollins. At 2-5 through seven games, the Raiders have little margin for error.

Waller joined the Raiders as a free agent in 2018 following two years with the Baltimore Ravens. After three seasons of relative obscurity, he broke out as one of the league's elite receiving tight ends in 2019, hauling in 90 passes for 1145 yards and three touchdowns.
