Arizona Cardinals to Interview Cincinnati Bengals DC Lou Anarumo for Head Coach

The Cincinnati Bengals are officially out of the playoffs, and that means coaches and players can begin looking to the future. According to SI's Albert Breer, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo will interview for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching vacancy. Anarumo initially joined the Bengals in 2019 along with head coach Zac Taylor. The pair successfully rebuilt the team from the league's basement, taking the Bengals from 2-14 in their first year all the way to consecutive AFC Championship game appearances over the past two seasons.

Despite the Bengals' achievements, Anarumo's defenses have only had modest success. He has never coached a unit that finished better than 16th in yards allowed, and this year's group was his first to finish inside the top 10 for points allowed.

At 56 years old, Anarumo is a veteran coach who has navigated highs and lows in both college and the pros. Given the Bengals' legendary turnaround, he makes sense for a franchise that appears poised for a rebuild like the Cardinals. He would also be a drastic course correction following the firing of Kliff Kingsbury, a young offensive-minded who had never coached at the NFL level before being hired by the Cardinals.
