NFL Rumors: Cowboys To Go After Top-Ranked RB With 2023 1st-Round Pick

With Ezekiel Elliott falling off this past season and, now, Tony Pollard suffering a broken leg heading into the offseason, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys may look to add another running back with their first-round draft pick this year.

ESPN's Mel Kiper projects the Cowboys selecting Texas' star RB Bijan Robinson in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

And why not? Jerry Jones "loves star running backs," as Kiper pointed out, trying to replicate the success the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys had with Emmitt Smith dominating the field behind the team's stout offensive line.

Bijan Robinson was a force this past season at Texas, rushing for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns in his final collegiate season. Remarkably, he had 29 rushing TDs over his last 22 games at Texas.

With Ezekiel Elliott turning twenty-eight this offseason, and having seriously declined performance-wise, the move seems smart. Not to mention, Tony Pollard suffered a broken leg in the Cowboys' Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He will rehab the injury throughout the offseason and we have yet to hear a timetable for his return.

Regardless, Robinson being drafted in the first round by the Cowboys would be very intriguing. We'll have to wait and see what Jerry Jones does.
