Arizona Cardinals to Interview Chicago Bears Linebackers Coach for DC

The Arizona Cardinals are considering a coach from the league's worst team for their defensive coordinator vacancy. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team will interview Chicago Bears linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi.

Borgonzi joined the Bears in 2022 after four years as the Indianapolis Colts' linebackers coach. The Bears finished with a league-worst 3-14 record and their defense allowed the most points in the league last season. Borgonzi's time with the Colts went much more smoothly: he coached linebacker Shaquille Leonard to multiple All-Pros and the Colts' defenses finished 16th or better in all four of the seasons they employed him.

Borgonzi would be an unusual and underwhelming hire for the Cardinals given his disastrous 2022, but he clearly knows the right people. Newly minted Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon coached alongside Borgonzi on the Colts from 2018 to 2020 as the team's cornerbacks coach.
