Derek Carr to Visit New York Jets

The New York Jets appear ready to do something radical at the quarterback position. According to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will visit the Jets this weekend.

Carr also visited the New Orleans Saints prior to being released earlier this week. He figures to be one of free agency's most coveted players this offseason.

Carr may not generate the incredible excitement that a blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers or Lamar Jackson might, but he would be an incredibly solid pickup for the Jets that could very well elevate them to contender status in the AFC. Carr is not a former MVP like Rodgers and Jackson, but he is a four-time Pro Bowler. At only 31 years old, he should still be in the prime of his career. Plus, he wouldn't demand the massive trade compensation that Rodgers and Jackson will be sure to.

Given the Jets won seven games last year with a passing attack that averaged the 26th-worst net yards per attempt mark in the league, acquiring Carr could radically alter their fortunes. He'd be an excellent pick-up, but the Jets will have to beat out several other interested parties for his services. Any team without a franchise passer in place (or an opportunity to possibly acquire one in the draft) should covet Carr.
