NFL Rumors: Detroit Lions to Target Safety in Free Agency

The 2022 season was a real step in the right direction for the Detroit Lions. Although they missed the postseason, they finished the year with a solid 9-8 record, and they will be aiming to build off of it next season from here. As a result of this clear fact, they are expected to be active in free agency, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson is reportedly on their radar because of this.

Gardner-Johnson is preparing for this weekend's Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, but after this game, he will have the chance to test the market after a career season. On the year, he recorded a career-high six interceptions to go along with 67 combined tackles and 1.0 sacks. Overall, after a campaign like this, he is set to land a sweet payday, and the Lions are now hoping to be the lucky team to land him.

However, when noting how well Gardner-Johnson played this season, there is going to be several teams pursuing him if the Eagles are unable to re-sign him. As a result, it is not a guarantee that Gardner-Johnson will be a Lion next season, but time will tell what happens on that front from here.
