NFL Rumors: Los Angeles Rams May Target New York Jets QB White

The Los Angeles Rams learned the value of solid depth at quarterback during the 2022 season, and they apparently intend to prioritize finding a premier backup this offseason. The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt postulates the team could sign New York Jets quarterback Mike White.

The Rams started four different quarterbacks in 2022, finishing 5-12 and last in yards gained. Their 2022 campaign fell apart long before incumbent starting quarterback Matthew Stafford was lost for the season, but acquiring White certainly makes some sense. The Rams recently hired former New York Jets coach Mike LaFleur as their offensive coordinator, so there's an existing relationship there. Stafford is also set to turn 35 soon and has an extensive injury history.

White was the best of a motley crew at quarterback for the Jets last season, averaging 298 passing yards per game with a subpar 75.7 passer rating. He demonstrated durability issues of his own, finishing the season with only four starts, but he would still be a trustworthy backup for the Rams. He could potentially fetch a contract that places him among the highest-paid second-string passers in the league, somewhere in the range of Teddy Bridgewater's $6.5 million per year and Marcus Mariota's $9.375 million per year.
