BREAKING: Kansas City Chiefs Sign Former Chargers Linebacker

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed linebacker Drue Tranquill to a one-year, $5 million deal, according to reports.

Tranquill, who previously played for the Los Angeles Chargers, was a part-time player for three years before stepping up into a starting role last season.

He excelled on the field, leading the Chargers in tackles while recording five sacks, 10 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and an interception. Pro Football Focus graded him as one of the league's best inside linebackers in pass-rush and coverage situations.

Tranquill had a long list of suitors but ultimately decided to join the reigning Super Bowl champions on a team-friendly deal.

While it may be difficult for him to match last season's production while playing alongside Willie Gay, Nick Bolton, and Leo Chenal, Tranquill should still play a significant role in the Chiefs' linebacker corps.

He is expected to slot into a starting role and help bolster the team's defense in the upcoming 2023 season.

Entering his fifth NFL season, Tranquill has recorded 298 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and six passes defended across 47 games played.
