Michigan Cornerback DJ Turner II Posts Eye-Popping 40-Yard Dash at NFL Combine

If someone's going to run a faster 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL Combine than defensive back DJ Turner II, they may need to break a record to do it. The Michigan prospect blazed a scorching fast 4.26 earlier today, the fastest mark so far this year.

Initial readings of Turner's time listed him at 4.27, but the official mark shaved 0.01 off his time. It tied him for the fourth-fastest mark since 2003, behind only John Ross (4.22), Kalon Barnes (4.23) and Chris Johnson (4.24). Ross and Johnson became first-round picks, and Johnson still holds the record for yards from scrimmage in a single season (2509).

Speed isn't everything at the cornerback position, but it's close. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen ran a 4.26 40 last year, and he went on to lead the league in interceptions as a rookie while allowing an excellent 48.7 passer rating on throws in his direction. Turner wasn't many people's idea of a top pick entering this afternoon, but he helped his draft stock today. Teams will take a much longer look at him now.
