Saints Defensive Tackle Signs With Division-Rival Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons have signed former New Orleans Saints defensive lineman David Onyemata to a three-year deal worth $35 million, with $24.5 million guaranteed, according to multiple reports.

The 30-year-old Onyemata had spent his entire career with the New Orleans Saints since being drafted in the fourth round in 2016.

He recorded 43 tackles and five sacks in 2022 and is expected to compete for a starting spot on the Falcons' defensive line.

The Falcons' defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen will look to incorporate the system he ran in New Orleans, and Onyemata's signing adds some much-needed strength to the Falcons' defensive front.

Over his seven-year career, Onyemata has recorded 244 total tackles, 23 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, one interception and three passes defended across 106 games, all with the Saints.

Onyemata was one of the more coveted names on the free agent market.
