Detroit Lions Young Defensive End's Future Uncertain

Levi Onwuzurike, a promising defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, has had an uncertain future since missing the entire 2022 season due to a back injury.

Despite playing in all 16 games as a rookie in 2021, he suffered an injury during training camp and underwent surgery in October, leading to his absence for the entire season. While his rehabilitation has gone well, the team is still unsure about his ability to return to the field, with his health being the top priority for the team's defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn.

Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Lions, recently commented on Onwuzurike's outlook, stating that his potential return could boost the team's playoff aspirations.

However, with the uncertainty surrounding his recovery, the Lions have added several strong contributors in recent drafts to bolster their defensive line.

Onwuzurike's ability to return to form and contribute to the team will only become clear in the coming months, as the Lions undergo offseason workouts and prepare for the upcoming 2023 season.

In his lone NFL season, the 25-year recorded 35 total tackles, one sack, and two passes defended across 16 games played.

Regardless of his status, the Lions will need to rely on their depth and talent to build a strong defense and compete in a tough NFC North division. Photo Credit: Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports
