Las Vegas Raiders Sign Veteran Quarterback

The Las Vegas Raiders have signed free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer to a two-year deal.

Hoyer had spent the previous three seasons as a backup quarterback for the New England Patriots, but will now join the Raiders for his 15th year in the NFL.

Undrafted out of college in 2009, Hoyer began his NFL career with the Patriots and has since played for seven different teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, and the Patriots on three separate occasions.

Throughout his career, Hoyer has made 40 starts in 76 games, holding a 59.4 completion percentage, with 10,668 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions, with a passer rating of 82.9.

His best statistical season came in 2014, while playing for the Cleveland Browns, when he set career-highs in pass attempts, completions, and yards.

With his experience and familiarity with former New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels' offensive system, Hoyer is expected to serve as a backup to Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, although that could change depending on the team's actions in the 2023 NFL Draft.
