NFL Trade Rumors: Tennessee Titans Signing Wide Receiver Tyler Boyd

The Tennessee Titans are adding a trusty veteran wide receiver. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Titans are wrapping up a one-year, $4.5 million deal for former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

Boyd and new Titans head coach Brian Callahan should know each other very well: Callahan was the Bengals' offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2023. Over that period, Boyd caught 361 balls for 4144 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Bengals.

After a pair of 1000-yard seasons in 2018 and 2019, Boyd eventually fell into a WR3 role for the Bengals thanks to the emergence of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Boyd will likely see similar opportunities in Tennessee. He should slot in behind DeAndre Hopkins and recent free agent addition Calvin Ridley in target priority.

Boyd (and Ridley) should help the Titans, but the team still has a long way to go if they're going to contend in the AFC South. They finished 27th in points scored in 2023 (17.9 per game), and they parted ways with Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry earlier this offseason (1167 rushing yards, 12 touchdowns, and 4.2 yards per attempt in 2023). If the Titans are going to field a competent offense in 2024, they'll need a massive leap from second-year quarterback Will Levis, who won three of nine starts as a rookie last year.
