San Francisco 49ers Sign Veteran Cornerback

The San Francisco 49ers have signed veteran cornerback Eli Apple to a one-year contract, according to multiple reports.

Apple, a former first-round pick out of Ohio State in 2016, has played for six NFL teams and brings over 100 career games of experience to San Francisco's secondary.

Eli Apple Adds Key Depth to Injury-Thin Secondary

The 29-year-old cornerback joins the 49ers as they deal with injuries, most notably to cornerback Renardo Green, who is sidelined with a hamstring issue. Apple appeared in four games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season and played in 10 games for the Miami Dolphins in 2023. He’s also had stints with the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and Cincinnati Bengals.

Apple has logged six career interceptions, 61 passes defensed, and 383 total tackles since entering the league.

While it’s unclear if he will compete for a starting role or simply provide veteran depth, Apple’s track record suggests he could be a decent addition as the 49ers look to stabilize their cornerback group.
