NFL Rumors: Browns Expected To Trade Quarterback

The Cleveland Browns could be forced to make a major roster move before Week 1.

ESPN's Dan Graziano and other NFL insiders believe the team is "likely" to trade one of its four quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, or Joe Flacco, as the competition heats up in training camp.

Browns Facing Overcrowded QB Room

After selecting both Gabriel and Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Browns now have four quarterbacks fighting for reps alongside veterans Pickett and Flacco. Graziano reported that the coaching staff is struggling to balance practice snaps for all four players, which could hurt the development of the rookies.

Pickett, acquired via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, which has opened up opportunities for Sanders and Gabriel. However, Gabriel, a third-round pick, appears to be receiving more first-team work than Sanders, suggesting Cleveland may be prioritizing his development.

Who Could Be on the Move?

Trading a rookie quarterback shortly after the draft would be unusual, but the Browns’ depth chart leaves tough decisions. Flacco’s veteran presence gives the team a bridge option if Pickett or the rookies aren’t ready, making him safer than expected. Gabriel’s draft status makes him unlikely to be moved.

That leaves Sanders and Pickett as the most probable trade candidates, with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints floated as potential landing spots for Pickett.

Cleveland will likely use the preseason to finalize its QB depth chart, but a deal could materialize sooner if another team suffers an injury and needs immediate help.
