Jaguars Get Devastating News On Rookie Phenom Travis Hunter

The Jacksonville Jaguars got brutal news as Travis Hunter is out for the season following knee surgery to repair his right LCL.

The team says there was no additional damage and set a six-month timeline for his return to football activities. The rookie phenom, drafted No. 2 after a blockbuster trade-up, suffered a non-contact injury during practice and was placed on injured reserve.

It ends a debut year that teased superstar potential before he went down and leaves Jacksonville to chase a playoff spot without its most dynamic two-way threat.

What It Means for Jacksonville Right Now

Before the injury, Hunter had begun to tilt the offense. In London he posted eight catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, and the Jaguars were expanding his role at wide receiver with Brian Thomas Jr. battling drops and a high-ankle sprain.

Across seven games, Hunter logged 28 receptions for 298 yards and one score while playing 67 percent of the offensive snaps. On defense he added 15 tackles and three pass breakups in 36 percent of snaps, showing steady coverage work for a first-year corner.

Parker Washington has emerged as a go-to option for Trevor Lawrence, and recent trade pickup Jakobi Meyers adds route polish to steady the passing game. Defensively, the rotation will lean on situational matchups rather than Hunter’s unique snap-sharing.

The long-term question is his role in 2026. With a clean repair and a six-month runway, Jacksonville can decide whether Hunter returns primarily as a wideout, a cornerback, or a carefully managed split to preserve durability while maximizing his impact on both sides of the ball.
