BREAKING: Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Suffers Devastating Injury
Patrick Mahomes’ season came to a sudden and painful end Sunday night after the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter as Mahomes scrambled, immediately showing visible discomfort before heading to the locker room.
An MRI later confirmed the diagnosis, officially ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
Mahomes Reacts After Season-Ending Knee Injury
Mahomes addressed the injury publicly following the game, posting an emotional message on X. He did not offer a timeline but acknowledged the physical and mental challenge ahead, thanking Chiefs fans for their support and promising to return stronger.
Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back…

Head coach Andy Reid echoed that concern postgame, admitting the injury “didn’t look good” even before imaging confirmed the torn ligament.
What This Means for the Chiefs Going Forward
With Kansas City already eliminated from playoff contention, the focus now shifts entirely to recovery and long-term planning.

Gardner Minshew is expected to handle quarterback duties for the rest of the season. After years of dominance, the Chiefs now must navigate life without Mahomes on the field and determine how quickly their franchise cornerstone can return to full strength for 2026.
