Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Rechsteiner will still be allowed to practice throughout training camp and play in all of Saints preseason games. The suspension itself won't actually begin until rosters get trimmed to 53 players on August 30.
A Longshot Story Already Facing Long Odds
The timing makes this suspension especially brutal for Rechsteiner's NFL chances. He went unselected in the 2026 draft out of Jacksonville State, where he caught 36 passes for 383 yards and five touchdowns in his senior season.
After a tryout invite to Saints rookie minicamp in May, he impressed enough to earn a contract and a real shot at training camp.

That shot was always going to be an uphill fight.
New Orleans already has Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele locked into the receiver room, invested a first-round pick in Jordyn Tyson this year, and added fourth-rounder Bryce Lance and sixth-rounder Barion Brown on top of that.
Rechsteiner was competing for one of the final roster spots against players like Mason Tipton, Ronnie Bell, Kevin Austin Jr., and Trey Palmer even before the suspension news broke.
Missing the first six games effectively takes him out of that competition entirely, since teams rarely carry a suspended, unproven rookie on a crowded 53-man roster when the alternative is keeping a player who can actually take the field in September.
The Family Name
What's made Rechsteiner's camp storyline stand out all summer really has nothing to do with football pedigree.
His father is Scott Rechsteiner, who wrestled for decades as Scott Steiner, known to fans as "Big Poppa Pump," and is a WWE Hall of Famer. His uncle Rick Steiner, Scott's tag team partner as The Steiner Brothers, is also in the WWE Hall of Fame. His cousin, Bronson Rechsteiner, signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent himself before pivoting to pro wrestling, where he now performs as Bron Breakker.

Rechsteiner has talked openly about the pull of the family business waiting for him whenever football ends. "He really convinced me to, once I'm done playing football, get into the wrestling business," Rechsteiner said of conversations with his cousin earlier this year.
