Vea's agent, Collin Roberts, told the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud that negotiations have stalled entirely. "I just don't see it ending in anything but a trade at this point," Roberts said. GM Jason Licht responded the next day with the opposite read. "I have no plans on trading Vita," Licht told reporters. "We love Vita. We've been engaged with his agent recently. I don't know how it's gonna end, but we've been engaged and that's at least some progress."
The Money Behind The Standoff
The dollar figures explain why Vea's camp is drawing a hard line.
He's entering the final year of his four-year, $71 million extension at a $17 million base salary, an average annual value of $17.8 million that ranks just 22nd among interior linemen. Spotrac pegs his actual market value at $31.5 million, and the gap looks even starker next to the going rate at his position, with Philadelphia's Jalen Carter now collecting $38 million a year on his new deal.

Licht did confirm one new detail: other teams have already called to inquire about Vea, though he characterized that as fairly normal business for this point in the offseason rather than a sign a deal is close.
Why Neither Side Is Blinking Yet
Vea has been present at the facility throughout, sitting in on meetings and observing practice, but has not physically participated since tweaking his back during a July 28 conditioning test.
Head coach Todd Bowles has downplayed the absence as a physical issue rather than a hold-in, and made clear the team isn't panicking without him. "We can play without him, that's not a big deal," Bowles said. "You don't want to play without him, but we can play without him."

Licht struck a more optimistic note about where things ultimately land, saying he believes the relationship is salvageable and that Vea could still be in Tampa beyond this season.
But an agent going on record, rather than staying an anonymous source, is a fairly big escalation, and with Vea a two-time Pro Bowler who's spent his entire eight-year career with the franchise, the Buccaneers now have a very public clock running on getting this resolved before games start to matter.
