Report: 49ers Set Massive Asking Price For Mac Jones Trade

Mac Jones isn't walking out of San Francisco cheap.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano dug into the quarterback trade market this week.

"It would take real draft capital, perhaps a Day 2 pick, to get in the door on Jones," Fowler wrote. "Brock Purdy is playing at an MVP level, but he also sat out seven games last season, with Jones filling in admirably."

Graziano backed that up from the other side. "The 49ers have said they aren't interested in dealing him, and I believe it would take a lot to change their minds."

The Giants Just Showed What The Market Actually Looks Like

New York needed a quarterback after Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee injury, and Jones' name came up constantly as a fit. The Giants ended up giving Minnesota a 2027 fifth-round pick for J.J. McCarthy instead.

That's a massive gap from what San Francisco has reportedly wanted for Jones, which has sat in the range of a second-round pick since as far back as this spring, when the asking price was described as "astronomical."

Jones earned that price tag the hard way. He went 5-3 as a starter last season while Purdy battled injuries, completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

He's set to hit free agency after this season, which is part of why San Francisco could eventually cash in rather than risk losing him for nothing.
