Bears & 49ers Pursuing The Same Players In Trade Talks

NFL insider Jordan Schultz said Monday on The Pivot that the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers have both been connected to several defensive players, including Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat, Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack, and Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.

Schultz named the two NFC contenders as the teams he’s watching most closely, said he expects a very active deadline with 12 to 20 trades, and added that he’d “be shocked if they don’t make a move before the deadline.”

The Three Names

Sweat has been a trade candidate for weeks, and the $17 million he’s due in each of 2027 and 2028 isn’t guaranteed and a GM said he has heard Sweat “wants out,” while Fowler recently said league execs see Dallas as a fit.

Arizona lost to Denver on Sunday, and Sweat would be a division trade for San Francisco, since the Cardinals are also in the NFC West.

Mack is 35, in the final year of his contract, and has three sacks and 14 pressures for the 0-6 Chargers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport wrote Sunday that the Bears are expected to make a play for Mack, and FOX’s Jay Glazer said Chicago has called about him.

George Kittle told reporters he asked 49ers GM John Lynch about Mack earlier this month, and Lynch said the team is making and receiving calls ahead of the deadline.

Buckner is also in the final year of his contract, and Tom Pelissero reported Saturday that the Colts have received strong trade interest in him and Quenton Nelson.

The 49ers are 6-1 and the Bears are 5-2. The trade deadline is November 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
