2 Teams Ramping Up Trade Talks For Budda Baker

Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker remains on ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler’s radar ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, with Fowler writing that Arizona’s consistent losing has weighed on the veteran and that the Bills and Jaguars could try to take advantage.

Why Baker Is On The Radar

Baker is 30 and has spent his entire career with the Cardinals since they drafted him in the second round in 2017, and is a two-time All-Pro and a Pro Bowl safety.

Fowler’s read is that years of losing have taken a toll on a player who has been a face of the franchise, which is the reason two AFC teams were named as possible suitors.

He signed a three-year, $54 million extension in December 2024 with $30 million guaranteed that keeps him in Arizona through 2027, a deal that was the largest third contract ever for a safety.

Baker requested a trade in April 2023 over his contract before staying with the team, which shows he has been willing to push for a move before.

The Obstacles

Baker has not requested a trade this time, and Fowler’s mention of Buffalo and Jacksonville is a view of who could pursue him if Arizona opened the door.

The Cardinals would have to decide to part with one of the franchise’s most important players, and Fowler’s description of him as hard to trade shows how much he means to the organization.

This season, Baker has 51 total tackles (26 solo), 3.5 sacks, one interception, and four passes defended across eight games. It's a career-high in sacks for him.

His contract helps a team that wants him because it runs through 2027, but it also means Arizona has no pressure to move him before the deadline.

For now the story is one to watch, and with the deadline set for Tuesday, any move would have to come together quickly.
