NFL Rumors: Browns Won't Extend Quarterback
According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Cleveland Browns will not be signing Baker Mayfield to a contract extension this offseason.
This upcoming season is the final year of his current contract. Although he currently is expected to be the team's starting quarterback in 2022, this does feel like a make-or-break kind of season for him. If he is unable to thrive in the role, don't be surprised to see the Browns move on from him.
The Browns have been linked to several different quarterbacks this offseason already, but as it stands right now, Mayfield will remain their guy. This comes after a rough campaign, so he will be looking to bounce back this go-around. In 14 games with the team, he threw 17 touchdowns, a disappointing 13 interceptions, and 3,010 total yards. With that, he had a 6-8 record, so it was a bit of an underwhelming year for the 26-year-old. This comes after he went 11-5 the season before.
It will be intriguing to see if Mayfield rebounds from here. Furthermore, although they are committed to him next season, that could change if they have the opportunity to land a legitimate star QB. It should be a fun offseason in Cleveland.
