New York Giants Release Linebacker

The New York Giants have had a horror run of injuries this off-season, so it may come as a shock to many that they have just released Middle Linebacker, Blake Martinez, who was the teams leading tackler in 2020, before he tore his ACL in the pre-season of 2021. Martinez, a 4-year player with the Green Bay Packers signed a 3-year, $30 million deal with the Giants prior to the 2020 season, and after year 1, it was looking good.

Unfortunately, Martinez had the horror injury early in 2021, and with just the final year on his deal remaining, the Giants decided it would be best to move on, especially if the injury cloud is still there hanging over him.

It's hard to tell whether Martinez will ever be able to get back to his pre-injury form, but if he can, any veteran, playoff ready team that feels they can compete in 2022 should be looking to bring him in, especially if they are purely after depth, because he would fit that role absolutely perfectly.
