Jets Lose Two Key Defenders in First Quarter

The New York Jets are making a bid for relevance in the AFC East today with a huge matchup against the Buffalo Bills, but they're not off to a good start. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins and inside linebacker C.J. Mosley are both questionable to return after suffering injuries in the first quarter. Rankins and Mosley are both key pieces for a resurgent Jets defense that ranks sixth in yards allowed through eight games. Mosley and Rankins have each started every game for the team this season, and Mosley is even the team's leading tackler. Rankins was the Jets' 12th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Should both players be unavailable for the remainder of the day, the Jets will likely struggle to contain a Bills offense that ranks first in yards per game and second in points per game. The Bills held a 7-3 lead after the first quarter.

UPDATE: C.J. Mosley returned to action in the second quarter. He has logged one pass breakup so far in the game.
