Baltimore Ravens Interview Quarterback Coach and Tight Ends Coach for OC

The Baltimore Ravens will consider an internal candidate to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy. According to the Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec, head coach John Harbaugh interviewed quarterbacks coach James Urban and tight ends coach George Godsey.

Godsey joined the Ravens in 2021. He has previous experience as an offensive coordinator: he served in the role for the Houston Texans in 2015-2016 and the Miami Dolphins in 2021 to middling success. Urban has served as the Ravens' quarterbacks coach since 2018.

The Ravens fired long-time offensive coordinator Greg Roman following the 2022 season because they believed they needed a change. Promoting Urban or Godsey would be an underwhelming move, but it may indicate the Ravens have larger changes in mind.

Rumors emerged last week that the Ravens were potentially open to trading quarterback Lamar Jackson this offseason. Roman typically specialized in mobile quarterbacks: he coached Colin Kaepernick with the San Francisco 49ers and Tyrod Taylor with the Buffalo Bills. His departure may signal the Ravens could be aiming to develop a more traditional dropback passing game. Whether that includes Jackson remains to be seen.
