NFL Rumors: New York Jets Favorite to Land Wide Receiver Beckham Jr.

The long, protracted courtship of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. may finally be coming to an end. According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the New York Jets have emerged as the odds-on favorite to sign the superstar.

Beckham allegedly has multiple offers on the table, but no one has put together a more enticing package than the Jets. They're also expected to complete a trade for four-time MVP Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers before the start of the regular season.

Still, if Beckham had an especially compelling offer, it would probably have been signed by now. SI's Albert Breer recently reported Beckham was holding out for a deal that would pay him $15 million per year, which is down from earlier reports that indicated he was looking for as much as $20 million per year.

Beckham clearly hasn't found a contract that he believes is commensurate with his stardom, but such is life for a 30-year-old, oft-injured wide receiver. He missed the entirety of the 2022 season due to an ACL tear suffered in Super Bowl LVI, and he only has 856 receiving yards at an inefficient 6.8 yards per target to his name since 2020.

If Beckham truly wants to play, he may have to swallow his pride. Accepting a one-year deal with a contender that would allow him to rebuild his brand and showcase his skills could serve all parties. Seven-time Pro Bowler Julio Jones signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. Five-time Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry played for the Saints last year on a one-year, $3 million deal. A similar deal with the Jets could get him back on the field with a visible franchise, and a big season could earn him a contract (and the stardom) he desires.
