Steelers Release CB Jackson and DB Platel

The Steelers made it official on Friday as they announced the releases of both cornerback William Jackson III and defensive back Carlins Platel.

The release of Jackson will create more than $12 million in cap space for the Pittsburgh club. He was originally acquired by the Steelers in October 2022 via trade with the Commanders for a conditional 2025 sixth-rounder from Pittsburgh for a conditional 2025 seventh round pick from Washington.

However, Jackson would not play a single down for the Steelers last season due to a back injury he suffered in November. Although he resumed practice in January after having his 21-day window opened, he was never activated back to his now former club's 53-man roster.

Jackson, 30, has played in 75 regular season games on his way to recording 205 total tackles, 51 pass deflections, and five interceptions in his career thus far.

Platel signed as an undrafted free agent in May 2022 and has yet to play in an NFL game.
