Free Agent Cornerback Has Interest From "Multiple Teams"

One of the league's most intriguing remaining free agents may be nearing a decision on his next home. According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, cornerback William Jackson III has interest from multiple teams and is waiting for "the right opportunity."

Jackson appeared in four games for the Washington Commanders during the 2022 season before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in November with a 2025 conditional seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. He was eventually placed on injured reserve and failed to play a snap for the Steelers. He was released in early March.

That "right opportunity" Jackson is seeking may be hard to come by. He turned 30 years old in October, and when he hasn't been injured lately, he's been ineffective. He allowed a 100.4 passer rating on throws in his direction over 12 games in 2021 and a 121.9 mark over four games in 2022.

Still, it wasn't so long ago Jackson was a hot commodity. He signed a three-year, $40.5 million deal with the Commanders in 2021. If he can get healthy, he should still have the talent that once made him a coveted free agent and a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he may need a key player to suffer an unlucky injury of his own in order to find a starting opportunity.
