NFL Trade Rumors: Buffalo Bills Reunite With Pro Bowl Safety Micah Hyde

The Buffalo Bills are bringing back a locker room leader just in time for the closing stretch of the season. Head coach Sean McDermott revealed during his media availability on Wednesday that the Bills have signed one-time Pro Bowl safety Micah Hyde to the practice squad.

Hyde started 95 games for the Bills from 2017 to 2023, nabbing 24 interceptions and even earning second-team All-Pro recognition in the 2017 and 2021 seasons. Over that period, the Bills finished fourth or better in points allowed on four separate occasions. The Bills neglected to re-sign Hyde following the 2023 season, but the 33-year-old veteran never inked a deal with another team or retired, so he remained available.

Hyde is an ideal signing for a 10-2 Bills team pushing for a championship. He was still a productive player within the system last year, and he should provide valuable depth in the coming weeks and the playoffs.

Of course, that assumes Hyde hasn't declined in his absence. His age means his skills and athleticism could erode even in the best circumstances, and he's been away from the game for nearly a year now.

Ultimately, Hyde is an intelligent, low-stakes gamble for the Bills. Even if he isn't the player he used to be, the Bills can trust his veteran leadership and experience within the system. Should injuries mount, Hyde will be able to limit mistakes and keep things humming in the secondary, all while potentially securing an elusive Super Bowl ring. It's a feel-good reunion all around.
