San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is one of the top names in the rumor mill right now. The expectation is that the 49ers will eventually trade or release Aiyuk. It is understandable, as he could use a change of scenery and is no longer a fit on the 49ers' roster.
Now, Aiyuk is continuing to be linked to a team in the NFC East.
According to ESPN's Ian Rapoport, the Washington Commanders are very interested in bringing in Aiyuk and are expected to target him if the 49ers officially release him.
When noting that the Commanders are in need of another impactful wide receiver, it makes sense that they have Aiyuk on their radar. If they acquired him, he would have the potential to be a strong addition to their roster. He would also give them another solid and experienced wide receiver to work with, which is a real need.
Aiyuk last played during the 2024 season with the 49ers, where he had zero touchdowns, 25 receptions, and 374 receiving yards. This is after he had seven touchdowns and 1,342 receiving yards in 16 games during the 2023 season with the 49ers.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Commanders end up bringing in Aiyuk this offseason.
