Giants Eyeing Massive Trade With Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea is on the New York Giants’ radar, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who wrote that Tampa Bay is still not expected to move him.

Fowler reported the interest as part of his Week 9 look at the trade market, which leaves the Giants scanning for defensive line help with the deadline set for November 10.

Where The Giants Have Looked

New York previously made multiple inquiries about Jeffery Simmons before the Titans sent him to the Bears, which tells you the Giants have been shopping for a big interior presence for a bit now.

Vea is a two-time Pro Bowler who started all 17 games for the Buccaneers last season, so he would fit the same profile as Simmons, which is probably why his name came up once Simmons was off the board.

Why Tampa Bay Isn’t Expected To Sell

The Buccaneers locked Vea in on August 19 with a one-year extension that added $6 million to his $18 million salary this season and gave him $24 million in 2027, a fully guaranteed package worth $48 million over two years.

That deal ended a standoff that began when Vea requested a trade at the start of training camp, and the Bucs held firm before the sides came together on the extension.

Having just paid him to stay, Tampa Bay would be moving a player it fought to keep, which is the main reason Fowler spoke on the Giants’ interest as one that is not expected to lead anywhere, but crazier things have happened.
