NFL Rumors: Colts Eyeing QB As Carson Wentz Replacement

The Indianapolis Colts just traded Carson Wentz and are already eyeing his replacement. According to Adam Schefter, they are now expressing interest in San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Colts were in on Garoppolo last offseason but ultimately ended up going with Wentz as their starter. Overall, Wentz had some strong moments with Indianapolis, but it wasn't enough for the team to have full faith in him in 2022. Yet, now they have their eyes on Jimmy G.

Garoppolo is expected to be traded before the start of this upcoming season. The 49ers want to roll with Trey Lance as their starter from here. In 15 games this past season, the latter threw 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and 3,810 yards. He also sported a 9-6 record during the regular season and led the 49ers to the NFC Championship game.

When seeing as how Aaron Rodgers re-signed with the Packers and Russell Wilson ended up on the Broncos, Garoppolo is one of the only big-name QBs still available. The Colts also have $70 million of cap space after the Wentz trade, so they have all the freedom to bring in a player like Garoppolo. Let's see if they end up winning the sweepstakes.
