New England Patriots Promote Offensive Lineman to 53-man Roster

The New England Patriots have shuffled their roster ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Miami Dolphins. The team announced offensive lineman James Ferentz has been promoted to the 53-man roster, and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell has been signed to the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Word of Treadwell's signing emerged last night, and Ferentz appears to be a beneficiary. He rejoins a Patriots 53-man roster for which he has made 27 regular season appearances, predominantly playing center and occasionally pitching in on special teams.

Initially signed as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa by the Houston Texans following the 2014 NFL Draft, Ferentz eventually made his way to the Denver Broncos, where he appeared in 21 games across the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He has played exclusively with the Patriots since 2017, earning middling Pro Football Focus grades across his limited appearances. He'll likely serve as veteran depth along the interior of the offensive line behind starters David Andrews, rookie first-round pick Cole Strange, and budding star Mike Onwenu.

The Patriots travel to south Florida to face the Miami Dolphins in their opening game of the 2022 NFL season.
