Texans Nearing Deal With Defensive Guru For Head Coaching Vacancy

It's a matter of when, not if.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Houston Texans could hire DeMeco Ryans as their next head coach by Tuesday or Wednesday if their second interview goes well.

All signs are currently pointing towards Ryans becoming the next head coach of the Texans this week if everything goes smoothly.

After reports came out that Ryans was no longer interested in the Denver Broncos' head coaching job, the Texans became the favorites to land the defensive guru even more than they already were.

He also interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts and the Arizona Cardinals a couple of weeks ago, but all has been quiet on that front.

A former second-round pick by the Texans in 2006, Ryans returning to the team that drafted him and he played would appear to be a perfect fit. His wife is reportedly also from Houston, which makes it an even better fit for him and his family.

We'll await word on if the deal finally gets done.
