Patriots Release QB Hoyer

The New England Patriots have released veteran backup quarterback Brian Hoyer after his third stint with the team, per the wire. 

Hoyer leaves the Patriots again after rejoining their roster in the 2020 season after he was initially released on August 31, 2019 when he lost the backup role to Jarrett Stidham and prior to that was released on August 2012. He has spent eight years in total as a Patriot. 

Hoyer originally signed with New England as an undrafted free agent right after the 2009 NFL Draft. He has been a backup quarterback for seven other teams including the Steelers, Cardinals, Browns, Texans, Bears, Colts, and 49ers. 

Hoyer was part of the Patriots team that went on to win Super Bowl LIII against the LA Rams. Over the course of his lengthy career he has thrown for 10668 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions.
