NFL Trade Rumors: Falcons Talented Running Back Becoming Trade Candidate
The Atlanta Falcons may soon be faced with a difficult decision: whether to trade running back Tyler Allgeier, whose workload has diminished behind star Bijan Robinson.
As Allgeier enters the final year of his rookie contract, insiders believe the team could be open to dealing the 1,000-yard rusher for a 2026 third-round pick.
Allgeier broke onto the scene in 2022 with over 1,000 rushing yards as a fifth-round pick, but his touches have dipped significantly since Robinson’s arrival. With Robinson taking on a heavy workload — 365 touches in 2024 — Allgeier’s role has shifted to backup, despite contributing 644 yards and three touchdowns last season. He remains productive, but the Falcons’ investment in Alabama rookie Jase McClellan signals a potential succession plan at RB2.
A Trade That Balances Present Needs and Future Flexibility
Analysts like Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report have floated the idea that Allgeier’s “workhorse ability is being wasted” and that he “has no incentive to sign an extension with the Falcons.” With Atlanta thin on draft capital — only five picks in 2026 and no first-rounder due to their aggressive move for James Pearce Jr. — dealing Allgeier for a Day 2 pick would be a smart way to recoup assets.

Still, the decision isn’t so simple. Allgeier provides crucial insurance for Robinson and plays a role in one of the league’s most consistent rushing attacks. If Robinson were to go down, Allgeier’s presence would be vital for a team trying to contend with a young quarterback and a retooled defense.

Multiple teams have emerged as logical landing spots, including the Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Commanders — all in need of dependable depth or a rotational back. While a third-round return may be optimistic given recent trade benchmarks (e.g., George Pickens for a third), Allgeier’s character, production, and scheme versatility make him an attractive mid-season pickup.

Whether Atlanta pulls the trigger before the deadline or keeps Allgeier through 2025 remains to be seen. But with his contract expiring and his future role uncertain, the trade buzz around Tyler Allgeier will only grow louder.
