NFL Rumors: Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III Becoming Trade Candidate
Now, just three years removed from a breakout rookie season, the 24-year-old running back is facing an uncertain future in Seattle. After multiple offseason moves and the addition of new backfield talent, league insiders believe Walker is becoming a prime trade candidate heading into the final year of his rookie deal.
Injuries, Inconsistency, and a New Offensive Vision
Walker burst onto the scene in 2022 with 1,050 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, showcasing game-breaking speed and elusiveness. But that momentum has faded. His yards-per-carry have declined each year—from 4.6 to 4.1 to 3.7—and injuries have become a recurring issue.
In 2024, Walker missed six games and finished with career lows in rushing yards (573) and touchdowns (7), while also landing on injured reserve. Even when healthy, his tendency to bounce runs outside—often leading to tackles for loss—raised concerns about his fit in Seattle’s evolving offense.
With the team shifting toward a more physical identity under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, the bruising style of Zach Charbonnet and rookie Damien Martinez seems to align better with the Seahawks’ game plan. “Every move they’ve made shows they want to be tougher at the line of scrimmage,” wrote Connor Benintendi of Seahawks Wire. "Walker doesn’t really fit that mold anymore.”

Trade Talk Heating Up
Walker’s contract situation makes the timing even more critical. He’s entering the final year of his rookie deal, and there’s little indication Seattle is interested in an extension. Trading him now could yield a meaningful return—perhaps a mid-round pick—especially for a team in need of an explosive back. “This very well could be the last opportunity to get something—anything—of value from Walker in a trade,” Benintendi added.
While the Seahawks haven’t confirmed any trade intentions, the writing may already be on the wall. If Seattle wants to hand the keys to Charbonnet and let younger backs like Martinez and Kenny McIntosh develop behind him, parting ways with Walker could be a savvy move.
