NFL Rumors: Injured Chiefs Starter Returning for Crucial Week 13 Game

The Kansas City Chiefs could finally get a major boost in their backfield on Thanksgiving, as running back Isiah Pacheco is targeting a return against the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Pacheco has missed the last three games due to a sprained MCL he suffered in Week 8 versus the Washington Commanders, but he was listed as a full participant on the team’s estimated injury report this week and is trending in the right direction.

Before getting hurt, Pacheco logged 78 carries for 329 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.2 yards per attempt. The former seventh-round pick has grown into the Chiefs’ RB1 and an emotional spark plug on offense, something the team has clearly missed during their 1-2 stretch without him.

Kareem Hunt Has Carried the Load During His Absence

Veteran running back Kareem Hunt has stepped up while Pacheco has been sidelined. Hunt posted season highs last weekend against the Indianapolis Colts, racking up 104 rushing yards and 30 carries, along with a touchdown.

Head coach Andy Reid noted Pacheco “is coming out pretty good,” but didn’t want to rush him back with two games in five days.

Even if Pacheco plays on Thursday, the expectation is a timeshare between the two backs, which could frustrate fantasy managers but provide needed balance for Kansas City’s offense.

Chiefs Also Add Depth with Dameon Pierce

Kansas City recently signed former Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce, adding depth behind Pacheco and Hunt. Pierce is unlikely to have a major role this week as he learns the playbook, but he gives the team insurance heading into the final stretch of the season.

The Chiefs kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23-20 win over Indianapolis and now face a must-win showdown with the Cowboys.

A healthy Pacheco, or even a limited version, could be crucial as Kansas City tries to spark an offense that has struggled without him.
