Surprise New Landing Spot Emerging For Free Agent Joey Bosa
Per multiple reports, including The Athletic's James Boyd, the Colts are one of the teams eyeing the five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher as a potential addition before training camp.
Why Indianapolis Makes Sense
The Colts ranked 30th in ESPN's pass-rush win rate metric last season, and behind Laiatu Latu there is not a single edge rusher on the Indianapolis roster who has recorded an NFL sack.
J.T. Tuimoloau, a 2025 second-round pick, has shown some promise and is expected to compete for a larger role, but banking on an unproven second-year player as the primary pass-rush complement to Latu is a significant organizational risk.
Bosa's five sacks last season with the Bills would have ranked second on the Colts' roster in 2025.
#49ers HC Kyle Shanahan was asked if he’s interested in signing Joey Bosa:

“I love signing good players. My kids do Instagram and look at all your stuff, so they ask me that all the time too… when I look at our team, it’s like we have our team. And anyone else we can figure… pic.twitter.com/4bGF2DK4b1
Indianapolis carries $32.6 million in cap space per Over The Cap, giving the organization the financial flexibility to absorb a deal that may need to include incentives to bridge the gap between what Bosa wants and what teams have been willing to offer.
He is 30 years old, has dealt with injuries throughout his career, and is no longer the dominant force he was during his Chargers peak, but the ability to generate pressure with his speed-to-power rush off the edge remains intact on tape.
Whether Bosa accepts a prove-it structure or continues waiting for a more traditional guarantee is the variable that has kept this situation unresolved for so long.
